Whilst doing some research, we found that the word “punch” comes from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘five’. This is because the origins of this fun cocktail were five ingredients; alcohol, sugar, lemon juice, water, and spices.
The Rum punch we know and love today is a result of the traditional punch making its way from England to the West Indies, where the sweetness of the tropical fruits, which were readily available to them, turned out to be a perfect match for Rum.
As we always say for any cocktail, this is just a guide, you make a drink that you want to drink and enjoy.
